4 Tips and Tricks for Organizing Your Storage Bins

Learning how to keep your house clean and organized is a life skill. Some people thrive with and enjoy order while others prioritize other things in their lives. Whether it comes naturally to you or not, you can follow some tips to help you organize your storage containers.

Label Everything

This one is the most impactful out of all the tips and tricks for organizing your storage bins. Labeling bins saves you time because you don’t need to peek inside each one to see what’s there. Write on tape if you don’t want to mark directly on the container. But you should also know that permanent marker writing is removable with a little bit of rubbing alcohol to wipe it away. So you may write on some containers directly. To save on how much you must label per box, keep the next tip in mind.

Put Similar Items Together

For most items in your home, it’s helpful to put similar objects next to each other when they’re in storage. When looking for a single type of item, such as strings of Christmas lights, it’s a massive waste of time to get them from multiple spots. If you have old keepsakes, put them all together in a “sentimental” box so that you don’t need to open every box to find what you need.

Store Things Away When Rarely Utilized

It’s best to store things that you barely even remember you have first. If you only use a specific baking dish for Thanksgiving, there’s no need to keep it in your kitchen cabinets. Likewise, there are probably a handful, if not dozens of items around the house that you barely touch. Place these under items you use more frequently in storage spaces. You can also consider putting some belongings in the attic. Likewise, it might be beneficial to invest in a garage attic hoist to make the best use of your time and space. Gather your rarely utilized items and store them away while also taking note of the previous tips and tricks for organizing your storage bins.

Once you take the time to organize, you won’t have to do it again unless you move. Being organized will help make your future easier.
