Very Impressive Attic Lift Testimony for Non-Profits & Small Businesses

We purchased a Versa Lift 32 corded 8-11 ft. in the summer of 2013 to use in a non- traditional way.  *Disclaimer, we assume all responsibility* The Portage Resale Shop is an all-volunteer, small, 501c3 non-profit organization that, in a nutshell, takes donated clothing items, sorts, processes, and stores them to be given away or sold for $1.00 in the appropriate season.  Our proceeds benefit local homeless shelters and food pantries.

We have given away over 40,000 coats, over 1,000,000 clothing items, and several hundred thousand dollars to help individuals in need.  We also gave away most of our land to another non-profit who built sustainable housing for 48 families surrounding our building.

In 2013 we were given a building that was originally a YMCA.  A unique feature of the building is a small racquetball court/gymnasium in the basement that extends in height into the main floor.   This area was prefect to store off season clothing, but carrying boxes up and down stairs was not feasible for senior citizen volunteers.   The state of Indiana has strict limits and policies in place over elevators and even dumb waiters.  Financially these would not be feasible.   We stumbled upon your product and took a chance with the state.  We designed and built an upright frame system that the lift sits in that is accessible from one side on the main floor, and accessible from the opposite side in the basement gym.  We opened up the wall on the main floor just enough to access the usable height of the vera lift, and to ensure that no one would be tempted to try to ride the lift to the basement.   We put in safety chains and sliding doors to keep the area secure.   When the state came to inspect it, I was able to show them that the vera lift was a commercially available “box lift” that was designed to move boxes up and down.   After some deliberation the state decided we did not need an annual inspection, nor the traditional insurance and allowed us to use it.

Since 2013 we have used this lift on average 5 days a week, probably 6 to 8 trips up and down each day.  That is about 3032 days and about 24,000 lift cycles.   We use uniform boxes for the most part and always try to balance the load.

We are so thankful for the use of this lift to help us complete our mission.   Thank you for making an amazing product.  Your design and the favor we encountered to be able to use this lift has helped thousands of people.
